Canary Islands Day 2025

The Canary Islands celebrate their national holiday Dia de Canarias every year on the 30th of May with lots of activities, concerts and celebrations, read more about it here...

The 2025 programme for Valle Gran Rey (above) has lots of local and Canarian folk music and more and will take place behind the bus station (where the Sunday market is situated) and begins at 1pm.

Folk Fiesta

This Saturday, 30th Dec. 2017, there will be a day of Canary Islands folk music held in honour of Nuestra Señora de Los Reyes with four participating folklore groups from Tenerife, Lanzarote, and La Gomera and is part of the VII Bajada fiesta. The event is free of charge and will start around midday behind the bus station near the bridge in La Calera, Valle Gran Rey.

Recording folk for TV

The popular Canarian TV programme 'Noche de Taifas' is going to be recorded in La Gomera tonight Thursday Dec.29th from 7:30 pm. The show is open to the public and this time it is Valle Gran Rey's turn to be the host. The location is Plaza San Pedro at the beach in La Playa and all are welcome to attend what essentially is a night of Canarian folk music, dance, and more.

Above a video with scenes from yesterdays romeria, the day of folk music and dance in the capital San Sebastian de La Gomera's streets where the attendance broke all records and even some journalists from abroad were reporting the event.

From noon today there will be folk music and a general party feeling
in the streets and in the main square of San Sebastian de La Gomera.
This colourful 'romeria' is held in honour of the town's patron saint.
The festivities in the capital will continue until January 24th, 2016.

Canarian folk in concert

A concert of Canarian folk music by the group 'Amalgama', with special emphasis on the traditions of La Gomera, will take place in the cultural centre near the town hall in La Calera, Valle Gran Rey this Saturday, April 18th 2015, at 8 pm. All are welcome.
