Holly on La Gomera hasn't got spiky leaves...
...like its Irish counterpart (Ilex aquifolium, above), because no mammals existed in the Canaries to browse on the leaves and so Canarian holly (Ilex canariensis) didn't have to defend itself with spikes on them.
